INSTALLATION/INTERVENTION
THE SCULPTURE SHACK
THE SCULPTURE SHACK was unveiled in 2017 at Chelsea Arts Club, London.
This site specific installation, a dystopian summer house fabricated from salvaged materials, was designed & built by THE DnA FACTORY MRSS.
The Sculpture Shack came into being as space for sculpture within our wonderful arts club is a little limited. Over the course of an inspiring afternoon and slippery evening Dallas and Angel came upon the idea of building a covered show space in the garden. Initially designed to house their own recent work and thereafter to be a versatile temporary space for the use of other members and events, The Shack remained in place for far longer than anticipated, becoming a little beacon of naughtiness down the garden path.
The work showcased within this bespoke sculpture house was created from found objects merged with cast and original sculpted pieces, 3d & 2d collage following themes of the political, cultural and social ramifications of being in the here & now.
Our thanks goes to everyone at The Club who helped us from concept to construction and installation, especially The Hanging Committee.

PunkPOPbaroQuE
PunkPOPbaroQuE: A joint exhibition in 2016, featuring THE DnA FACTORY MRSS & DAVID APPS at THE UNDERDOG in Bermondsey, London.
The collection of sculptures, prints and ephemera included in this show interlink in a story, initially inspired by the Course of Empire, a series of paintings by Thomas Cole.
A truncated journey through history, to pose a question about the future. about repetition, direction and hope. Using the figure as a visual centre piece wearing the emotional, political and physical responses to the questions posed. Serving to emphasise the role of our own species within the schematic, a reflection of society, a reflection of fears, dreams, desires and consequences.
As in the course of empire, the path of this game takes us through ideas of growth, expansion and dissolution. A suggestion of the timeless and cyclical nature of being.
