THE EGG MACHINE[RY] + POTEM [Parts Of The Egg Machinery].
Initially developed and created as a series throughout the lockdown of 20-21, the members of this family deploy the symbol of an egg to represent the fragility of life. This group of sculptures, along with Heroes Of Isolation and Erosion Apostles completed during the same time period, saw the introduction of a wider range of materials including plaster, concrete and Jesmonite, marrying these with found and reclaimed items including recycled wood, steel, machine parts alongside rusted and burned nails, bicycle chains and ash. Developments of this collection are still on-going into 2025/26 and have developed into larger works clad and bound in metals and materials recycled from luxury brand waste.
Delving into the exploration of ‘eggs’ by way of illustrating aspects of incubation, virology and fragility; eggs are used to both create a virus and produce a vaccine, a fascinating duplicitous role. The egg is an embryo, signifying fertility, possibility, growth, birth and rebirth and in this respect they are representative of life, of hope and potential, full of spiritual significance, despite or in-spite of being challenged by splitting, separation, of being pierced or probed.
Embedding other materials within each mould to allow for the accidental discolouration, the oddities that could arise with these materials being exposed or obscured, see also BAS RELIEF + This duplicity in state of being and perception explores a multitude of additional themes; isolation, fear, powerlessness and loneliness.
