We are delighted to be contributing a piece to the Royal Society of Sculptors Summer Exhibition curated by David McAlmont, with the theme ‘REALITY CHECK’. The exhibition features a fabulous showcase of members’ and fellows’ work at the stunning Dora House [home to the Society] on Old Brompton Road and will be open to the public from Saturday July 20th to Saturday 21st September 2024.
Discussing the theme, McAlmont comments; “In 2024, Instagram influencers who look like people don’t have to be people, deep fake photos of a bigoted presidential candidate in the company of grinning African American supporters circulate, or an edited portrait of a renowned conservative family is jettisoned from respectable news sites. We can be excused for asking, ‘What is real anymore?’ Perhaps, then, it is really time for a reality check.”
David McAlmont is a British recording artist, art historian and tutor at Architectural Association Interprofessional studio. Recent works include the album ‘Happy Ending (Guardian Album of the Year), and an article on the history of the word “Ghetto” for Mousse magazine, Shifting Visions and the Medici Society (January 2024). He is currently developing a Jacques Louis David project for 2025.
