Their work is held in influential collections worldwide, exhibited in Europe, US, China & UK and has been auctioned in support of the following charities : Aids Ark, Amy Winehouse Foundation, Article 25, ArtLink, Ein Herz Fur Kinder, The Green Party, Stonewall, Terrance Higgins Trust with ChildLine auctions at both Sotheby’s Olympia & the National Portrait Gallery and 10×10 Drawing London, in support of Article 25, at RIBA and The Shard.
Inspiration stems from the melding of observational reality and autobiography with myth and storytelling. Past and present merge as they encounter culture through the re-use of discarded object and ephemera, creating a whole from previously disparate elements where meanings, connotations and associations are made by the actual presence of the work.
Interwoven throughout are a series of constant themes regarding shifting morality, alienation and isolation, perceptions of sex and sexuality, gender and gender confusions, an intermingling of the positive and the negative, the ordinary and extra-ordinary. Loaded with metaphor, allegory, elusive illusions, suggestions which give the observer space to find the threads of the story or commentary, the chance to weave that story together.
THE MASK OF ORNAMENT
With the disparate elements that combine to make each sculpture, collage or installation, the ultimate disguise is that final top coat of gloss. A shiny veneer, a disturbing culture coat [ing] to make each object seem innocuous, harmless, a simple and effective visual ploy, for that which at first may seem trite or vacuous is always, upon reflection, political, iconic and polemic.
Closer inspection reveals these pieces are infused with raw edges of the [hidden?] underbelly of Society, from their conception by the use of discarded material [toys, magazines etc] to their completion, they embody reactions to the harsh realities of human life and existence. The DnA vision of interpretation is conducted with thought and empathy, on a very human scale, these elements underscore their creative nature with the result being art, that in its approach, is both richly complex and beautifully simple.
In a world where we all exist in concurrent and overlapping stories THE DnA FACTORY MRBS serve to hold a mirror to the drama and consequence of the theatre that is Life.
